About DIET Dhemaji
District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) is a district level educational institution that provides academic and resource support to educational development at elementary level. DIETs were envisioned in the National Policy of Education 1986. The main objective of established DIETs in every district of states of India is to provide academic and resource supports at grassroots level for the success of various strategies and programmes being undertaken in the area of elementary education and adult education.
All programmes of pre-service and in-service teacher education and training of adult education, non formal education, personnel in the DIET would be design as to train the teacher / instructor in transacting curriculum, keeping the learner at the center of the teaching learning process. Government of India in the early 1990’s to strengthen elementary education and support the decentralization of education to the district level, DIETs were conceived as third addition district level tier to the support system, which would be closer to the field and therefore more alive to its problems and need. The main focus of DIETs is Continuous Teachers Professional Development which would directly or indirectly impact on quality of school education.
In the present context, with the recommendation of National Education Policy-2020, the role of DIET is critical in providing quality Pre-service and In-service teacher training. DIET as nodal agencies for teacher training from elementary to higher level. Accordingly, provisions are provided for strengthening physical structure in phased manner. NEP-2020 also expected that DIET’s role be expanded to cover secondary school as well, instead of only elementary education.
District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Dhemaji was established in the year 2014. Since its inception DIET, Dhemaji had been endeavored to train a good number of teachers in the elementary level in different areas of school education within the district. NCTE recognized Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) under SCERT, Assam; being offered to the institute since 2018 and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) under Dibrugarh University continued from 2021 with 50 intake capacity for the both courses.
